I have got an Acer plant in a pot and all up the bark ther is something that is like drops of sticky stuff it is obviously a bug of somesorts how can i get rid of it

Could be scale insect - these look like little shield shaped things, sometimes surrounded by white fluffy stuff. If it is that, clean them off with a cloth (disposable) slightly moistened with methylated spirits, or with a mild soap and water solution.
