what is this?cut it back last year as thorns are dangerous

inherited it with property.prev.owned by elderly lady with connections in Oz and or New Zld.Some plants/seeds imported I believe?It was 10 ft high with vicious spikey thorns on branches.Seen something similar on Oz website but not the same .As can be seen now growing back..hight currently 6 ft.Anyone from downunder Know it or perhaps in U.S.A?

I think you need a closeup of the plant here showing the leaves as it's impossible to get a clear idea from that distance. Is it evergreen or deciduous?
