In grew a plant from seed many year ago, it had blue bell shaped flowers grew as a shrub but I may have lost it but then it was always late to start into growth, Any ideas eleptical leaves.

Without a photo it's impossible. Why not thumb through some illustrated gardening books? Dorling Kindersley do some excellent ones, divided up by colour. Have a look in your local library if you don't have one.
