Metal vs wooden arch
Hi everyone, it's been almost three months since we first started work on the garden and we've come a long way. We are now at the phase where I would like to add an arch. As we have two dogs, we would like to add the extra wide type i.e. about 1.6m wide or so.
I'm just not sure if we should go for a simple metal arch or a bow top wooden arch. I like the wood but don't want it to overwhelm the space.
Our garden is 65 feet long and 25 feet wide approximately. I've attached a photo of the work that still needs doing i.e. extending the patio, digging out two more beds along the patio and installing the arch.
Advice please? I would also like to know the advantages or disadvantages of having a metal arch vs a wooden arch from your experiences, thank you! I just don't want to make an expensive mistake.

Yours looks stunning Meanie but I'm not sure I have the patience to wait 10 years!
I've decided on a metal one with a little bit of scroll work. Was going to have climbing roses that have a fragrant smell going up both sides.

It very much depends on whether you want to use the arch, or whether it should be a feature in its own right.
This is what can be done with a very simple metal arch over a few years..........
