Can you identify this plant? I found this in my clean up this year, it could have been there for years but never really noticed, though I liked the shape. Now it has flowered - can anyone tell me what it is?

It looks kind of like Hermodactylus ...... Google to see if the images match yours.

I'd have said some kind of iris... sorry I can't be more specific.

Thanks very much Andrewr, it certainly is iris foetidissima! I like it, and the arching leaves also. It is shy and intricate - just like myself! I am looking forward to seeing the seed pod and berries - can I use the seeds as they are, or do they have to be dried? I would love to have some more next year.
