having just looked at it, i'm not that sure it is.

There are a few species of slime mould and they do look different at different stages of development too.

Any chance of a picture Steve?

Maybe the early stages of cedar apple rust?

thanks, i'll see if i can get the customer to bring another piece in. The only way that springs to mind is, the flower of calceolaria flower (pouch like) hanging from the stems, very soft and jelly like.
