i bought a five foot conference pear rootstock tree in a pot. Will it bear fruit if i replant in a larger pot or does it have to go in the ground.

What sort of rootstock? If it was a dwarfing rootstock it will be OK in a pot, otherwise it will eventually need to be planted out.
