Re Backdoorshoes - we have 2 Eucs about 50yds apart that I trimmed last autumn and are now apparently dead/dying so would be interested to hear of other experiences, answers.

the winter seems to have affected some Eucalypts quite badly this year, you're not alone in having a problem. Can only suggest you wait and see if new healthy growth starts somewhere and when it does, cut down to that.
