I have just posted a photograph of my new Acer Green Globe. The description I was given on the label and the description I found on the internet are very different. Can anyone clarify why this should be. The label on the one I bought saya it is H1.25m x W1m. On the Internet sites I looked at it is described as H3-4m. But it also gives a fuller description as Acer palmatum dissectum. Am I looking at 2 different plants both named Green Globe. Thank you all for trying to help.

No I can't, unless you tell us what the differences are in the description. As far as I can tell, its a small, globular shaped Acer with finely cut, dissected leaves which start out pinky orange and then turn green over time, eventual height about 10-13 feet. But I don't know what your label gives as a description.

I only see your lable :)

I've got exactly the same problem. I bought my plant as a tiny seedling last year and hoped that the more dissected leaves would develop as it grew. Sadly, they haven't. My leaves are just like the ones in your photo.
When I search the internet for Green Globe, the only ones I can find are dissected.

My plant was produced by a firm in Holland called Sonkoot. I have written to ask if they can shed any light. Will post any answer here if I get one.

Welcome to GOY Babskay. I have posted above a copy of the the label which came with mine. It is the same company. They give a web address on the back of the label but when I went on to the site, there was no mention of Acers. Interestingly enough someone else asked an almost identical Q on another site in 2008 but did not appear to have had any replies. It was an American site but the author was writing from Northampton. I bought mine in Morrisons. I will be interested in any information that you can give me. Has yours grown at all. I do not want a full size tree and I do want to plant it in the garden not in a pot.

This plant should be pretty slow growing, Scotsgran, but certainly the image of the actual plant doesn't correspond with the leaves shown on the label in terms of the dissection. It may be that the label rather exaggerates what the plant actually looks like...

Bamboo thank you for taking the time to look again. I have been looking at a recent blog by BJS and his one with red stems has flowers on it. Underneath are some seedlings with leaves which look a bit like mine but the parent has much more dissected leaves. Is this likely to need age to show the dissected leaves or are the seedlings not true to their parent, but more likely to be more like one or other of their grandparent stock. I'm sorry I cannot be more technically correct but this is new ground for me. I am puzzled and would like to know.

Had a look at the pics you mean in the blog - the Acer dissectum he's showing (mature one) isn't the same variety as the one you've bought - the seedlings do, as you say, look similar to yours in coloration, but actually already are showing longer, thinner parts of the leaf than yours is, and I'm sure the coloration is simply because they're young, so no, I don't think your plant is ever going to be as dissected as the plant he's showing. It may be false advertising for this new variety, I don't know.

That is dissappointing Bamboo. As long as it grows slowly I should be okay with it but I am a bit worried about planting it in the garden because it might be a monster to get rid of in a few years time. I should have known you only get what you pay for. It only cost me £3. I was at Dobbies today and they are selling them £14.99 or 2 for £20.00. It was an impulse buy.

Scotsgran I have just bought Green Globe from Morrisons with the self same lable as yours. The leaf looks very like the pic perhaps not so skinny but near enough.
I also bought Orange Dream and the leaf looks very like your photo. Do you think it is a case of mis-labelling and what you have got is Orange Dream?
If you have its a lovely plant. I've planted one in the churchyard next to me and its a pleasure to look at. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it even if it isn't what you expected.

Thank you Gable and Scotkat. It is threatening to rain here but it was yesterday as well and we did not get any. I watered my potatoes last evening hoping that would bring on the rain, it usually does but not this time. It is very windy and definitely a lot cooler than recently. I think summer has been and gone. How is the paeony Scotkat.
