Can anyone identify this fungus with a hole in the cup? I found it in the garden next to the rhubarb which I put horse manure on earlier this year. They are very pretty looking and I tried looking on the net but I can find out what type of fungus they are.

Thats a shame. Not uncommon though by the sounds of it. They are very pretty with that marbled effect.

Try looking up 'Cup fungi' ( Pezizaceae) it might fit with one of those?

Thanks DRC! I have found a similar one in a book of mushrooms. It seems to fit with the Peziza variety as you suggested. The book only shows three kinds of these, mine are most likened to Badia but are lighter in colour. Always find mushrooms so interesting.

Yes So do I and I love the taste.

Badia are really dark. My books have lots of pezizas, but none with that pretty shading. They all grow on different substrates from rotting wood to wet sandbags!

There are more and more appearing and they just grow in size, some are like golf ball size now. No stems either in character with Peziza. Lovely marble effect when they get bigger.

How do I say thanks?
