When and how do I prune my apple tree

Answers

Traditional time is between Nov to March. How to prune depends very much on age of tree if young tree different process to large established one.

If a young tree all leading branches can be cut back by half to just above an outward facing bud. This stops branches growing back into crown of tree and becoming over -crowded.

Older trees require pruning of lateral branches - those off main branches to about 4 inches.Again noting direction of growth bud. Hope this helps.
