Why with all the rain recently is my front lawn so very dry? It is quite springy and I did have a couple of ants nests which I think I have got rid of

Answers
Spike with a fork and top dress with a fine soil (not compost). Rake in well with a rubber rake. Roll or walk the lawn.
Leave for about 4 weeks, then dress with Autumn/Winter fertilizer.
Regular cutting will improve the sward.

Perhaps you have big trees nearbye whose roots drain off the water. . You could try letting the grass be a little taller. And use a Lawn feed.
