I'm sure Google will tell you, but all I can remember is it involved a black binliner, 6 weeks in the dark and then a period of cold, or was it hot, I can't remember. I tried it once 25 years ago, never bothered since - they're only three quid in Tesco's from December.

It is a complicated procedure and I think you are too late in the day to have red bracts for Xmas. As Bamboo says buy one in Tesco or your local garden centre.
