small dicksonia antartica

i purchase a mtere high dicksonia antartica some years ago and have since moved to southern spain taken it with me for the last four years i have watered the fern in the shade but it only produces minute ferns any suggestion..allso is it possible to cut it in half to make two smaller species

In ideal conditions this plant will grow about one foot of trunk in around ten years! It wants lots and lots of warm humidity - upwards of 80% and it will say 'thank you' and perform accordingly. It thrives on moisture-laden air.
