my Monkey Puzzle tree was hard bitten by the late spring frost, all the top of the tree including branches and tips are brown (and dead I think) However the tree has sprung about 10 new green shoots from the base of the trunk. How should I prune it, or not?

On plant Araucaria araucana

Baring in mind these tree can live to well over 100 years it won't hurt to give it a little longer. I suggest that you cut off the new shoots from the base to see if anything new sprouts from further up the trunk. If you leave it, then you may well end up with a large sprawling fir tree.
