I usually do a few finger exercises before I start: stretching fingers out like a starfish and then pulling a tight fist then repeating about 6 times. I also wear gloves if it is cold. then after washing in warm not hot water I massage in hand cream.

If its bad, I will apply 10% ibuprofen gel to affected areas after working, helps a bit to reduce inflammation and pain.
