Erigeron blue beauty. One site advises cutting spent stem right back and another site tells us to dead head, after flowering. Last summer I just dead headed it and it didn’t flower again. This is its second year. What do you suggest I do?

dead heading doesn't guarantee a second flush of flowers but it may do. If you let it form seeds it is less likely to flower a second time.
