The 'old fashioned' ones have the nicest scent. I'm going to try them again this year.

I agree and it is a good time to get them into pots now.
I used to pot them in the loo roll tubes 3 per pot then i'd plant the whole thing into either large ornamental pots or in the ground.

Now we have a pet gerbil she gets the tubes so I will use the taller 9cm pots again with 3/4 seeds /pot.
I also soak the seed in luke warm water that I allow to go cold over night. they swell nicely and it starts the germination process quicker and I don't need to water them straight away if the compost is damp.

Sweet peas, Lathyrus odoratus, are an ornamental flower Paul and there are lots of varieties depending on the colours you fancy, long or short stemmed and fragrance.

Marjorie if you have a colour theme going on you can buy just pale pink etc. if you aren't bothered then you can get mixed seed. I usually go for mixed seed to get a range of colours.

Oh thanks Eileen. Seems like Marjorie wants to grow peas that are sweet to eat.

I like the old-fashioned ones best, too, but you don't get such large flowers although the colours are beautiful and the scent gorgeous. The newer varieties can come in subtle or more strident colours. An enormous choice. This year I sowed them in November and they're growing well now. I've used toilet roll tubes too.

Bathgate why do you think I want to grow sweet peas to eat😗🤔
Thanks to all of you for sharing all the hints and wrinkles.
Just one more question which is the best seller of the seeds?

I usually use Chiltern seeds (enormous selection at the moment) and in the past the usual suspects: T&M or Mr Fothergill.
I soak them first, too.
