Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' must be the most asked after plant at the moment. If you have to, then wait until spring, and cut it back to a strong framework. If you want it to flower, then leave it alone, and it will perform unaided. Phil J

You can have both by cutting back immediately after flowering, though that will prevent fruit and reduce the bloom slightly.
