Hi,

I planted 3 Wisteria Sinensis 2 months ago and on one of them some of the leaves are turning a silvery red colour. Is this normal or signs of something untoward? You can see the contrast in colour in the pictures. Each bit of growth is fully green or fully silvery red.

Kind Regards

Isn’t that just the new, young growth?

yes it is the new growth. I have 2 and one is like this and the other is reddish. nothing to worry about.

The red color serves two purposes in tender, young leaves. It acts as a natural antifreeze in case of a late frost, and it filters out excess ultraviolet until the young epidermal cells can grow a protective wax coat. So you usually see the most red when the nights are chilly, and/or the days are sunny.
