I would just plant it outside either in a pot or in a border, see what happens. I left mine in the ground this year due to mild winter and they are just sprouting now.

bring it into the light and it will green up in a few days. then treat like all your others.

I have a couple in the ground, that I buried a good 6-10 inches deep. they come back every year.

Thanks everyone. I would like to plant some in the ground and it's a mild area of the country, but protecting from slugs is hard enough in pots. I use copper tape round the pots which works well.I
think I'll try some in the ground this year.
