Do you happen to live near rapeseed fields? At this time of the year they often migrate into the gardens.

Sounds like one of the plagues of Egypt. Here in NY, the sparrows would make quick work of them. Hopefully they'll be gone soon.

Pollen beetles, no need to worry, just a nuisance

Thank you for the replies...my house is painted cream and there's loads of them on there but the brick houses don't look like they have them .

That's interesting about the cream walls. At one time I had some yellow bedsheets and insects always landed on them on the washing line - didn't bother about the white ones.
Should you be worried? Well worrying wouldn't make an difference! They will most likely go off somewhere else quite soon. I had a lot of little green flies on my hydrangeas but they were only there for day and then disappeared again.

Interesting. We play croquet with blue, black, red and yellow balls . . . the yellow ones are the ones insects land on.

I noticed the yellow thing as well when I hung out Son's t-shirt on the line!

I noticed tons of them on my yellow Alyssum yesterday. They seem attracted to yellow. Nice crunchy snack for the birds!

there are hundreds of pollen beetles about at the moment and for most gardeners they are just a 'mild' nuisance and don't do any appreciable damage to plants. for those that grow flowers for exhibiting they are a serious problem. as the name suggests they feed on pollen and yellow is a preferred colour for them to land on.

How do I say thanks?
