As you feel they need a bit of extra attention you might benefit from waiting until they've dropped their leaves so you can clearly see the framework.
Cut to limit size, remove any diseased bits & any stems that are crossing & rubbing in the wind. Final shape should be like a goblet, the shape of a fielder's hands together to catch a high cricket ball
