it does look like lythrum salicaria common name in the uk is purple loosestrife.

Hi, I agree with Sbg, lythrum salicaria, it likes permanently very moist soil, I grow this in a pot to prevent it spreading, but the pot is stood in a large saucer, which needs to be kept permanently filled with water, Derek.
