Hi Everyone
Have a problem with allotment in Hertfordshire full sun soil
is not good neither solid clay or like sand.
Have moved around positions of planting every year runner beans were put in but not growing well up the sticks more like lower bush with lots of flower.
Pods that have turned up have been about 10 cm long and rock hard not muchbend in them at all.
Have been watering every day on a few occasions twice a day.
what could have gone wrong.

What is the soil actually like, Alna? Is it pale, or dark in color? If you take up a handful of moist soil, squeeze it into a ball, and poke it, what happens? Does it dent, or crack, or just fall apart?
On another tack, did you use a bean and pea soil inoculant? Have you fed them anything?
Considering that the UK has been experiencing heat and drought, lately, have they been getting supplemental water?
