Nicotiana I bought some plugs once in summer evening scent too! Not sylvistris !at a local nursery never seen them since. On the net the closest to them I found is nicotiana alarm grandiflorum a lot of sites various claim at first they are tall like the ones I grew which I would day were 3-4ft but on reading further into these particular seeds are only 24-30 inches any ideas ?

Heirloom varieties grow 3-5 feet tall, but newer cultivars tend to be more compact, Youngalistair.

Try this site Youngalistair. They quote 1.2m (4')

How would I get hold of heirloom seeds?

I found this:
https://www.reneesgarden.com/products/nicotiana-jasmine-alata

Tugbrethil 'reneesgarden' only ship to USA and Canada. I googled Nicotinia alata and found Waitrose were selling plug plants which grow to 1.5m high. They say order in the winter and offered 40 + 20 free for just under £17.00. It might be worth checking local stores or contact them online. They may have small quantities left. .

Thanks for all your effort but part of the reason i came here was I ordered nicotiana Alata from eBay as the seller said on his site that it grew to 1.5 m but later on i found out it was more like 24-30 inches so I contacted him and low and behold he apologized prefusly and said it must be "typo" error and were 24 " after all. So when waitrose claim their plants are 1.5 m outsourced from wherever I can't really believe them and it would cost 17 pounds to find out the seeds cost me 2.00 but thanks for taking the time to do a bit of detective work

Have another look at the link Ya. Whisper is taller than 24".
or try Chiltern seeds

or try https://www.chilternseeds.co.uk/item_901E_nicotiana_tabacum_variegata

This is white only and is not whispers but yes I will call Chilterns and maybe ask them...Im actually surprised at how difficult this is considering I bought them from long acres nursery bagshot which is like a supermarket and asking them is usually a dead end.

Tug it did not matter that the link you gave only ship in America. Finding things on the web is usually a matter of asking the right question and the more input into the questions that need asking can only be found by searching. That website says N.jasmine-alata is an heirloom variety and does grow to 3-4 feet. I sometimes find plants need a few years to reach their optimum height but if YA's plants died off or did not do what the seller said they would maybe they were not N. jasmine-alata. Hopefully she will get back to tell us how to find what she wants. At that height I would be interested too.

I hope your search is successful Ya.

I bought as plugs in those white polystyrene trays they do about this time of year and they got to 4ft by late summer and never came back so they are a annual

Found a u.s web site called ....fine gardening but seems it's down now so you have to type in "nicotiana Jasmin alata" on google and 2nd article down is this old article about these devastating unreal plants that can grow up to six foot in the right conditions and it has all the facts about these amazing plants it's basically nicotiana alata and what had probably happened is the species has been dwarfed and it's probably true that seeds being sold here probably don't get much bigger than 24 "...
