I can't tell whether they are Pinks or Sweet Williams but they belong to the genus Dianthus.

They look like Sweet Williams to me but pinks are very similar.

Thank you so much Hywel and Arbuthnot. I can now order some online for my garden. I’ve never heard of them before, but I am a new to gardening, (that’s my excuse) so both of you giving me help to identify her is very much appreciated!

If they are Sweet Williams, then they will be biennial; sow seeds in summer for next year. Just be aware that many Dianthus can be tender and might be treated as annuals. The true pinks will be a lot more expensive but in most locations will be hardy and after a few years you can take cuttings to renew you stock.

Judging by the leaf they look more like Sweet Williams to me.

Most likely a variety of Chinese Pink (Dianthus chinensis). Sweet Williams (Dianthus barbatus) have many more flowers per cluster, bristle-like bracts protruding from the cluster, and fewer leaves and branches on the cluster stems.

Thank you all so much for your kind responses and sharing your knowledge. I’ve managed to order some and I’m now looking forward to them arriving, thanks to your replies. All the best!
