I’ve bought a nordman fir Christmas tree ( pot grown) it’s in a fairly small pot and my garden is nowhere near big enough in the long run for a big tree but I’ve decided to buy a large pot for it to grow in until it becomes too big. Is there anything anyone can recommend to care for it? I. E how tvhld go water and does it need feeding? I can plant it on the front garden if needs be as it’s large and open..

This tree can grow from 40 to 60ft so I would keep it in the pot. All firs need slightly acidic soil and as far as fertilization goes, I will leave that to other members to advise you. Best Regards: L

Thankyou! Will go in a very large pot and then eventually into somebody else’s garden when it gets too big! Hoping it doesn’t lose its shape!

I got one of those 'table top' Christmas trees a few years ago - a potted blue spruce. In the spring I planted it out in the woodlands where I'm sure it's much happier.

Have done that myself Bath. It's great fun to visit it over the years to see how it's coming along, it's like seeing an old friend.

LOL I've done that too. Mine gave me a few pine cones which I used to make a wreath.

Dan first make sure you don't shock it by sudden temperature changes. Acclimatise it gradually if you can, both going into the house and going outside again.
When you pot it on or plant it out you might try to get some pine needle litter fr a good deep mulch if you have a coniferous woodland nearby. Should be plenty not too far from you.

Thanks steragram! Will look into the line needle stuff, I’m hoping it won’t get shock as it was outside when purchased and is staying outside in the garden with some lights on :)

I expect Steragram assumed you were going to bring it in for Christmas - keeping it outdoors means you needn't worry about shock. I do like a tree outdoors with lights at Christmas!
