is the pot staying out doors? seems an unusual move usually its the other way on. :o)

personally I'd do it in spring just before growth starts but it will cause extensive root damage and it may not survive. you will have to take care with the watering to help it establish. remember in a pot it will need watering everyday.

HOw long's it been in the ground and what specific palm is it?
