I have just cut back my peoney roses. Now I have a bald patch on the lawn, would it be ok to put down some compost and grass seeds to cover the patch until they grow next year? thank you.

Hi Mercia and welcome to GoY, you do not normally cut all the growth back on a peony, it will die back natural in the autumn and can then be tidied and will grow again in spring. I think you are going to have to live with the hole in your lawn or plant something lil winter pansies you ca then remove as the peony is not going to thank you for having to push through grass to grow and you will not be able to mow this once the peony has grown so it will look unsightly.

Hi, I don't usually pull the peonys out but i am having driveway work done so it had to be done. Ok i will just tidy up the edges of the bald patch and try and make it look neat! Thank you so much for your help, I think you will be my new BBF lol
