WHY DO THEY DO THIS ?
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT ?

Could be birds pecking the flowers, or snails or slugs.

Not enough sun. Are they growing in the shade? They flop in the shade, stand erect in the sun.

Hum, not sure about that Bathgate, the flowers will certainly not open properly unless there is sun but I've never seen them flop over. Richard, where and how are your crocus planted?

I'm sure about it Moon growe just observing my own planted in the shade compared to those in the sun...the shaded ones tend to flop especially when aided by wind and rain.

Thanks for these answers . Seems clear they need full sunlight
It's not birds or snails
They are in the sun for half the day
Maybe I need a different variety ?
What is good
My crocus flowers are big , I wish they were small like wild crocuses [ I have seen in the Swiss Alps ]
I will have to give your answers some thought

I put the bulbs in in September in my front garden which gets the sun in the morning
It's really no good as the flowers flop on the first day
I do want crocuses
But .....
Would buying fresh bulbs every year help ?
[ I plant the same bulbs I had last year Are there small flower varieties ? ]
[ I imagine they would flop less ]

You'd be better off just letting your crocus corms just stay in the ground over summer rather than lifting and replanting. If they are getting morning sunlight then that isn't the main problem. If you want to get rid of the Dutch crocuses then look for Crocus tommasinianus, C. Sieberi and C. chrysanthus, all sold in garden centres as well as on-line. Plant them September time and simply leave in the g round year round.
