Autumn in theory, but in practice, it would be best to leave them alone in the ground - unless they've only been planted a few months, the roots may be quite widespread and too wide for a pot, and they do not like root disturbance and may sulk and refuse to flower for some time.

And they are heavy feeders so would prove difficult to get to flower in a pots with a restricted root run and thus less access to food.
