A friend on the allotments is growing a variety of runner beans, the pods are now turning a redish black colour and the beans inside the pods are really pink almost red please can you identify the plant and are they safe to eat,



I'm curious as to why the grower doesn't know what variety they are, surely he bought the plants or seeds himself, but yes, there are purple varieties of runner beans, so on the assumption he bought something that was meant to be eaten, then that's likely what they are, purple runners....

Purple varieties often turn green when you cook them anyway.
