Black currant bushes. Each stem has a strange white fluffy coccoon like growth containing a soft brown bug. What are these, are they harmful and if so what is best treatment. The fruit yield has not been harmed.

Brown scale is a sap-sucking insect , easily treated with a organic spray
have you picked all the fruit yet if not I would leave for now wont make much difference as the scale insect has been on the plant since last year
