Is it a good idea to incorporate Watergel crystals in manger baskets and garden tubs? Does this water retention gel (Polyacrylamide gel) actually enable the soil to retain water and can the plants then make use of it? It seems too good to be true to me

In areas with a high sodium content in the water--probably rare in the UK--the sodium can build up to toxic levels in the gel, but that is the only down side that I have seen in them.

I think they're brilliant and wouldn't be without them.

It is fine to use, but not for cactus, succulents or orchids.
