We have a lilac tree that this year seems to have stopped abruptly. Branches have tight leaf buds that have not opened. It has always been healthy and flowered until this year. Any ideas please ?

I suspect the fluctuations in the weather/temperature might be to blame. they may still open if not they will shrivel and drop off but the plant should be ok next year.
