I would like to buy some perennials that I can display in pots in my patio garden. What perrenial plants will be suitable for this. If I buy from garden centre will they flower this year?

Hi Bob and welcome to GoY, where do you live in the UK and how much sun and wind does your patio get, it makes a difference as to what perennials you can grow. Also what size of pots are we talking about here.

Many alpines will grow happily in pots, and most of them are perennial.
I also find Dianthus - Pinks and Carnations, grow well in pots, but they like a lot of sun.

Its also as well to check the varieties you choose for time of flowering. Some have a short season but you'll porbably want some that flower for a long time? In a large pot you'd probably have room for both.

Yes alpines will grow happily in pots Hywel, at least some will, but if they are true alpines will need a lot of sun.

And whether they will flower this year depends on the age of the plant. Mature plants should flower this year, young ones may or may not.

How do I say thanks?
