Could be Wintersweet - Chimonanthus.

Thank you very much for the above answers, much appreciated..I ask as a friend has seen these flowers and as she is getting married next year, would like them on tables in the wedding in the reception.

Wintersweet has a lovely scent so if yours don't smell then they are clearly a different plant.

Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles species) or Flowering Apricot (Prunus mume) are my top two candidates. Closer pictures of the stems and foliage (if any) would help settle the question.
