Rule of thumb: leaf and root crops need a minimum of 12", and fruiting crops do much better with 18". There are exceptions, so you will probably want to make a list of what you want to grow, Seagarth, and research them.

Mine are only 1 ft high and I find them perfect and didn't cost much. If you want full details I'd be happy to send them.
