i have a small wooden fence at the bottom of my garden and i want to plant some uses to cover it with folige all the year round but can not be prickly as people pass something that is thick to cover

Do you want it to climb on the fence or stand in front of it?
Planting in front would give you more options if it has to be evergreen.
