Please can someone tell me what tree this is? My neighbour has one on their front garden...it smells beautiful in summer and I want to buy one but don't know what it is?

It looks like a Gardinia, possibly Augusta. Does it have a really nice smell - gardenias are known for?

Sorry, Bathgate, but Gardenia's do not normally grow outdoors in the UK, certainly not in Lancashire at least.

Not enough petals either for Gardenia. Definitely Philadelphus.

Philadelphus, with that slight purple interior it could be one called Belle Etoile, though there are a few other purplish ones about.
