Vale of Glamorgan, Wales Wal

Can you tell me what I should do about the shoots that are growing up from the base of these two apple trees, the leaves are a red/brown on the one tree and green on the other, they are not the same variety. They were 3yrs old when we bought them, which makes them now 10. They have only ever produced one or 2 apples per tree, but this year the one tree is laden with blossom. I am sorry I have been unable to add a photograph I will try and send one seperately if needed.

Wrench them off - if they're too thick, you'll have to cut them, but they're less likely to come back if you wrench them.
