I'm looking for a either a plant, bush or shrub, or a combination of both; that grows super fast. Can grow this season. I don't care if it's a weed. Something that won't kill the surrounding trees. This is for privacy and security. Ideally with some defensive measures such as thorns and spines. Also looks nice and won't be too I invasive like bamboo.

Just remember that things that grow super fast don't normally stop and can take a lot of keeping in check after a few years. Can't think of anything with thorns that will grow really tall in one season. There are a few species of bamboo that are not to invasive. Could you erect something to support a trellis and grow climbing roses on it?
