Does somebody know, what causes different colours of wild violets? I have noticed in my garden there are patches of white and then of blue violets. I have never seeded any there, so I guess it could be associated with soil?
Thank you in advance for any idea.

There are two natural forms of Viola odorata, white and blue - the seeds do come true, and are ejected with some force over a fair distance. Some are carried by ants, so it's not the soil that makes yours variously white or blue, its just a seed which has grown of one or the other.

Also pink and purple forms. On my local nature reserve there are examples of all the different colours, mostly in separate patches.
