We lost a branch off a Damson tree, approx. 35 years old, I have posted photos in a blog. The big branch took a smaller branch down too. There is dark brown staining on both branches. Is this a disease can any tell me?

Could be the gummy sap that stone fruit produce when stems get damaged? Could be staining from a fungus. Hard to tell to be honest though.
