Is it too early in year to prune viburnum, providing weather is frost free ? (i do not know which variety i have )

if it is flowering now or has just flowered then you can prune it now. if it flowers later in the spring then wait until after flowering would be my gut reaction.

I have a feeling you will be cutting off all the flowers , but all depends on the variety any chance of a photo ?
