care of 'bird of paradise'

hi everyone, i've just been given a 'bird of paradise' plant as a gift and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to care for it?

just keep it moist i have put mine outside .leaves in the summer flowers in the autumn so my instructions says just be patient.feed every couple of weeks.
