I have an eight foot hedge mostly made up of ivy which I have decided to trim back to around six foot to make it easier to manage will it grow back if I just leave it after I have cut it back.

I have a berberis hedge and my neighbour has an ivy on the other side which grows through it. When I trim my berberis I just run the hedge trimmer over both of them at the same time and the ivy always grows back. In fact it's become a bit of a nuisance.

You don't saw what the hedge is or whether you mean will the ivy or the hedge grow back - but the answer to both is yes.
