Speaking for myself, when I was a young man at the school dances I planted myself right next to them:)!!! Yes, I soon found out that many of those shy wallflowers at the dance were actually wildflowers:):):)
Welcome to GOY Twiggywig! Wallflowers prefer dry conditions with very good good drainage. If you have those conditions somewhere in your garden, then there will they go; for instance: in a rock garden, a fast draining area alongside your house or any other area with these conditions that need a little color. Again a very warm welcome to you and never hesitate to ask any gardening question that you wish to.

I have to say I have found wallflowers difficult over the past few years....and I dont know why. I have not grown them myself but bought lovely, bushy, healthy plants. They seem to flower late autumn then when they should be flowering in spring only a very few flowers. However as the scent from them is powerful and intoxicating I shall continue. I have seen them growing out of a crack in the wall...so no soil there and little nutrients. Many years ago my mother grew a variety called Persian Carpet. I still remember the scent on a lovely May morning.

I think Tiggywig meant in what position. Full Sun, Part shade or shaded.

Badfish, that is not helpful.

Tiggywig please stay with GOY. The knowledge that you will gain here about plants, gardening and everything associated with it is PRICELESS. Why? The reason is that it is knowledge gained from experience. The GOY members have spent years and years of gaining practical knowledge about gardening and they are graciously able to pass that on to you in an instant. I am constantly in awe of the breadth of their gardening experience and their understanding of plants and nature.
