Agree, Woodlice do not damage live roots. Can you take a picture? It could be a rodent or Cat, Hedgehog or birds.

Yes, whatever is doing the damage is attracting them but they are innocent bystanders.

No - they like damp shady places and live off decaying vegetation, including wood, but aren't capable of eating your tree roots.
